South Dakota Students Learn to Put Beef on Their Table Thanks to Beef in the Classroom Experience

(Pierre, S.D.) Students in 40 South Dakota classrooms are learning from beef-focused nutrition
educational opportunities nutrition education during the 2025–26 school year.

The Beef in the Classroom Experience gives middle and high school students hands-on
opportunities to work with beef products in lab settings, where they learn preparation methods,
explore the nutritional value of beef, and gain practical knowledge to identify and understand
various beef cuts.

“The Beef in the Classroom Experience is an incredible opportunity for our students,” said Elissa
Engel, Family and Consumer Science (FACS) Teacher, Ben Reifel Middle School, Sioux Falls.
“The program gives students hands-on opportunities to learn how to cook with beef and helps
them make beef dishes they like and would include for their family and friends. Without this
program, it would be hard to have resources available for this type of real learning.”

The Beef in the Classroom Experience is an initiative of Beef Logic Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit
organization dedicated to strengthening families and communities while promoting the positive
benefits of beef for the future.

Partnering with Beef Logic Inc., South Dakota CattleWomen, a volunteer organization, is helping
to make this program a reality. Together they are strengthening connections between producers,
educators, and families, while championing the role of beef in a healthy, sustainable future.

In addition to this program, Beef Logic Inc. is home to Build Your Base, a comprehensive sports
nutrition program that utilizes beef as its premier protein to prepare athletes and their families for
a successful sports season through ready-to-use materials, best-in-class sports nutrition
education and high-quality protein to support optimal performance.
